The doctors and nurses in this practice are all committed to health promotion believing (where possible) that it is better to prevent illness rather than treat it. Appointments for all of the following clinics can be made by calling the surgery.
A booster tetanus injection and Polio are needed every 10 years if you are visiting a part of the world where the risk is high. We also offer a flu vaccination for those over the age of 65 and also to those who suffer from asthma, heart problems and diabetes. Pneumonia vaccines are also available for those patients at risk. We are a registered Yellow Fever vaccination centre. There is a charge for some holiday vaccinations.
The nurses offer this clinic to those who suffer from asthma and need regular check-ups. They will advise you on lifestyle, inhaler techniques and medication, and discuss any concerns you may have.
The practice nurses hold regular diabetic clinics. They will advise on all aspects relating to diabetes. Once a year the practice is visited by a mobile Retinopathy Camera where the eye is examined these appointments are prearranged and suitable patients will be contacted.
The practice nurses hold regular CHD clinics. They will advise you on all aspects relating to Coronary Heart Disease.
A smear test is an examination of the neck of the womb to check for changes which occur before cancer develops. This test is done by the practice nurse. We strongly recommend this test for all women up to the age of 65, usually those who are or have been sexually active. The health authority will automatically call you when your smear is due.
All the doctors and nurses can offer advice about family planning, the pill and other methods of contraception. All the doctors will prescribe the 'morning after' pill in any consultation time. This can be taken up to 72 hours after intercourse and the service is, of course, confidential. Coils are fitted by the doctor and practice nurse usually an early morning appointment when they are both available, this is done in practice.

ALL PATIENTS MUST COMPLETE A TRAVEL QUESTIONNAIRE FORM PRIOR TO MAKING YOUR APPOINTMENT
IMPORTANT INFORMATION; Please submit your form at least 8 weeks prior to travelling....longer if backpacking or similar. We have an increasing number of patients submitting forms with very little notice, in circumstances such as this you may not be guaranteed to be seen at the surgery.
We aim to contact you within 7-10 days of receiving your form.
There is further information about countries and vaccinations required on the links below
It is important to submit a form at least 8 weeks before you travel. Some vaccines have to be ordered as they are not a stock item.
Some travel vaccines are ordered on a private prescription and these incur a charge over and above the normal prescription charge. This is because not all travel vaccinations are included in the services provided by the NHS.
Travel Health Questionnaire
To help us offer the appropriate advice, please fill out the online form before coming to see the nurse.
